Jackson, central and south

The 38301 zip code includes much of what was originally Jackson including downtown and south Jackson.  It has a wide range of neighborhoods.  One of the more interesting one is the LANA (Lambuth Area Neighbor Association).  Lots of historical homes located close to the University of Memphis - Lambuth Campus.   LANA is the most active neighborhood association with activities and regular meetings.  As with most older area there has been some decay, but Jackson has a aggressive redevelopment program.  More recently West Tennessee Healthcare has developed a 84,000 square foot medical fitness center downtown.  This has encourage the development high end apartments and new residential construction in adjacent areas.  South Jackson is a community in its self.  Separated from downtown Jackson by the Forked Deer River and its basin, it  has a wide variety  residential housing and good public schools.
