Humboldt

Humboldt is a city of 8,452 in Gibson County.  It began in the mid 1850's as a railroad town and was incorporated after the Civic War.  Humboldt is named for Alexander von Humboldt, a noted naturalist of the 1800's.  The Humboldt Municipal Airport is located 3 mile east of the city and serves primary private planes.  The West Tennessee Strawberry Festival is a major event held the 1st of May since 1934.  The media income is $26,351, but the per capita income is only $14,433 with about 16% of the families below the poverty line.  This mix of income levels contributes to a variety of housing from rentals to some very historical homes in downtown Humboldt.  While Humboldt has a medical and industry community, many of its residents commune.  It's low tax rates, small time feel and closeness to employment are major pluses.  Perhaps Jessie Hill Ford is one of it's more famous citizen; the author of The Liberation of Lord Byron Jones.
